Nintendo Launches Online Talking Mario Wishlist

Monday, November 24th, 2008

My kid and I had fun setting up and sending a voice Nintendo DS wishlist, despite some glitches. A new Nintendo site, http://mariowishlist.varitalk.com, lets you choose a console and three games you’re hoping for as well as fill in various other details. Then, Mario will either call or email the hopefully willing recipient of the wishlist, who gets to hear the message in Mario’s cringe-worthy “Italian accent.”

There were a few bugs, though. For example, while “Mario” was able to speak my son’s slightly uncommon name, he said he couldn’t pronounce “Mom,” which was one of the choices on the drop-down menu. Still, cute idea.

New iPhone app for Nintendo DS cheats

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I don’t have an iPhone (I know; I’m deprived), so I can’t vouch for this brand-new app, but the concept sounds cool. It’s called GenieDS, and for $2.99, you can download the app to your iPhone or iTouch and access tips and (authorized) “cheat” codes for more than 150 games. New codes are added for new games daily, but you don’t need an Internet connection to use the app. There are codes for popular games such as Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros. and Guitar Hero.
