Retailers are noticing (gasp!) that the economy has been pretty crummy and people are gearing up to spend less this holiday season. That’s good news for people looking to buy a Nintendo DS console and/or games for Christmas, Hannukah or just for fun. Each week, I’m going to post deals I’ve seen for the DS Lite console as well as games.

At Amazon.com, through Saturday, Nov. 8, if you buy two of a group of selected popular Nintendo DS games, you get one of equal or lesser value free. They include Professor Layton and the Curious Village, Crosswords DS, a little Pokemon, a little Mario, four different Nintendogs games, Clubhouse Games Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day and a bunch more.

At Walmart, there’s a bundle deal where you can save $30. You choose a console plus you get an accessory kit and choice of two games (there’s a list of 13 to choose from).

If your Circuit City isn’t one of the 155 closing (and probably even if it is), you can get a character-themed case free with the purchase of a Nintendo DS Lite console. The deal is good through Saturday, Nov. 8.

And if you have kids or have Pokemon games on your DS, show up to Toys R Us on Saturday or Sunday Nov. 8 or 9 between noon and 4 p.m. If you bring your DS plus Pokemon Diamond or Pokemon Pearl Game Card, you get get Dragonite for free, plus $5 off any DS game with Dragonite in it. Also through Nov. 8 at Toys R Us, you can save $20 when you purchase two of the following: Wall-E, Lego Batman, Kung Fu Panda or Star Wars Force Unleashed.
