Sunday DS Ad Roundup Nov. 30

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

In between the afterglow (or indigestion) of Black Friday and the anticipation of Cyber Monday lies this week’s Sunday ads. Good from Nov. 30 through Dec. 6, there are some deals to be had, as well as a lot of ads showing lovely pictures of DS games as if they’re on sale, but actually they’re regular price.

At Toys R Us, there’s a Nintendo DS Tween Value Bundle for $154.97, saving shoppers about $30 for bundling your choice of an Imagine, Petz or Ener_G game in with the console. (The ad also shows a Tween Traveler Case, but if that’s included, the savings is much more, so I’m not sure it is.) Also, all Nerf video game accessories (Nerf Armor, etc.) are 25 percent off.

CircuitCity is offering 20 percent off several games regularly priced at $29.99 (making them $23.99), including Carnival Games and Lego Batman. Nerf Armor (aka Pelican Nerf Armorlite) is on sale for $9.99. And there are several DS games priced at two for $20, including Mario Party DS and Kirby Superstar Ultra. Verge car charger and set of four styluses are $4.99 each.

Best Buy has Guitar Hero: On Tour bags $5 off at $9.99. They hold the grip, system and games.

Target has an exclusive Guitar Hero box set. For $69 you get both Guitar Hero: On Tour and Guitar Hero: Decades.

Nerf Armor Nintendo DS Protective Case on Sale at Amazon

Nerf Armor

Nerf Armor

I had dreams of blinging out my Nintendo DS Lite, adding shiny jewels, or maybe a cute Hello Kitty skin. Alas, I decided my 4-year-old son needed to be introduced to video games, and I decided I had to put safety first (the safety of the console, that is—the safety of my kid hopped up on Mario has yet to be determined). So, I opted for the Nintendo DS Lite Nerf Armor. I got mine for $12.99 at Circuit City, but now Amazon has it for $5.95—though I’m not sure for how long. The suggested retail price is $14.99. It’s available in an array of colors, and has all the cuteness and charm of, well, a Nerf football. It is sturdy, though. Even though the Nerf Armor adds some weight to the DS Lite, it’s still easy to hold during play. You do have to poke around a bit to operate the switches and get the stylus in and out. My other beef is that, even though the console should be protected if it takes a spill on the Nerf side, it may not survive a fall on the unprotected side. There’s also a giant Nintendo DS Lite Nerf XL Case with room for a console, charger and games, but I think that’s more for traveling. And, strangely, the giant case doesn’t fit the DS console if it’s in one of the standard Nerf Armors.
